Key points
  1. Warriors Abyss is a roguelite that released for Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and 5, PC, and Microsoft Store.
  2. The game is single player only, offering no options for couch co-op or online multiplayer.
  3. It costs $24.99, and is only available virtually.

Koei Techmo released Warriors Abyss on February 12, 2025 – debuting as soon as it was announced during Sony’s State of Play presentation.

The game is a Dynasty Warriors spin-off, playing as an isometric roguelite. This is a rather different gameplay formula from the stage by stage progression which has become iconic in the Warriors franchise. Unlike many of its predecessors, Warriors Abyss is single player only, meaning there will be no couch co-op or online play.

Warriors Abyss released on PC, Xbox, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch; the Nintendo Switch release was a day after the initial. The game has three versions available for purchase

  • Warriors Abyss: Standard Edition ($24.99)
    • Early Purchase Bonus: Costume Set
    • The Main Game
  • Warriors Abyss: Hack’n’Dash Edition ($39.99)
    • Early Purchase Bonus: Costume Set
    • The Main Game
    • Hack’n’Dash Legendary Costume Set
    • 3,000 Karma Embers (in game currency)
  • Warriors Abyss: Ultimate Edition ($79.99)
    • Early Purchase Bonus: Costume Set
    • The Main Game
    • Hack’n’Dash Legendary Costume Set
    • 5,000 Karma Embers (in game currency)
    • Dynasty Warriors Classic Costume Set
    • Samurai Warriors Classic Costume Set

Karma Embers are used for in-game microtransactions – but the game is not necessarily pay to win. It rewards skill and grinding more than anything, with in game transactions being more shortcuts rather than unfair advantages.

Warriors Abyss has characters from both the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors franchises – making it more in line with the Warriors Orochi series than with Dynasty Warriors.

This also means the story is separate and non-canon, utilizing newly made story elements to tie the characters from different universes together. Unlike the typical warriors games, players cannot jump – think of a warriors game with Hades mechanics. Warriors Abyss’ graphics are more reminiscent of the Dynasty Warriors mobile game entries than other console counterparts.
