Midnight Society, a game studio Guy “Dr. Disrespect” Beahm co-founded, will close its doors, four months after the studio underwent “significant layoffs.”
January 31 is the final day of Midnight Society’s existence as a Twitter post made by the studio announced its closing. According to the post, aside from its closing, the studio is also helping the developers it housed land positions in other studios.
The closing was announced four months after Midnight Society did layoffs. The layoffs weren’t officially announced by the studio. It was the employees who announced their loss of the job that prompted PCGamer to contact Midnight Society. Only then was it confirmed that there was a “significant workforce reduction”.
According to them, the studio faced multiple “unexpected challenges in the recent months”. This layoff happened three months after the studio cut its ties with Dr. Disrespect after the streamer was busted talking inappropriately to a minor in 2017. Since then, Dr. Disrespect has been banned on Twitch.
Midnight Society is responsible for the development of an NFT Extraction Shooter called DEADROP. Dr. Disrespect heavily promoted the game back when he was still involved with the studio. However, following his Twitch ban and the studio cutting ties with him, the game had no big streamer to advertise it and it just faded into obscurity.
DEADROP was slated for release this 2025 for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It was originally meant to be released in 2024, but delays kept on happening which further adjusted its release date.
