A bug discovered in Diablo 4 on Jan. 30 is allowing players to achieve such towering damage that numbers don’t even matter anymore.
This bug, which stems from a miscalculated witchcraft power in the latest season, is turning some classes into almost unstoppable forces.
While the exact mechanics behind the bug remain unclear, it has altered the game’s competitive landscape. Players using the Spiritborn class, previously not considered a top-tier choice, are now dominating leaderboard rankings. One player recently cleared a high-level dungeon in just two minutes on the Spiritborn.
The bug originates from one of the seasonal witchcraft powers that is meant to apply bonus attacks based on a character’s skill damage. However, faulty calculations cause the numbers to spiral out of control, sometimes reaching the trillions. In extreme cases, Spiritborn players have reported seeing negative damage numbers in their tooltips, suggesting that the game’s mathematical systems cannot handle the overwhelming figures.
Blizzard is aware of the issue and has classified it as a “high-priority” bug. A company spokesperson shared that the development team is actively working on a fix. However, the timeline for a resolution remains uncertain.
In past seasons, Blizzard has taken a measured approach to fixing damage-related bugs, sometimes leaving them in place for weeks before rolling out patches. For instance, last season’s Spiritborn exploit allowed players to deal damage in the quadrillions, but it was not patched until the beginning of the current season.
