A video game store in Uruguay may have inadvertently leaked the release date for Grand Theft Auto VI. Xuruguay briefly listed the much anticipated title with a September 17, 2025 release date before later updating and removing the information.
If confirmed, the date would mark exactly 12 years since the release of GTA V, which launched on September 17, 2013. The alleged GTA VI release date aligns with the planned Fall of 2025 launch window set by Take-Two Interactive, thereby fueling speculation that it may be accurate.
This leak caught the attention of various online news sources – but the webpage has since been updated. The release date was removed, and instead a generic summary of the game was displayed.
The previous entry, GTA V became a cultural phenomenon, amassing over 200 million sales worldwide, serving as a home for one of the biggest online roleplaying communities, and earning the title of one of the best-selling video games in history. With such legacy, GTA VI has become one of the most anticipated games of the decade.
Slated to release on the most powerful current generation consoles, GTA VI centers around Leonida – a fictional iteration of real world Florida. Instead of opting to wait on the potential September 17 release date, fans have begun making the game themselves, creating the fictional land of Leonida within the preexisting GTA V engine.
