Astro Bot Wins One More Game of the Year Award

Astro Bot got another Game of the Year award; this time, it was at the New York Game Awards 2025. Besides the Game of the Year title, Team Asobi claimed Best Kids Game and Best Music in a Game awards.

New York Game Awards is an annual award show honoring video games by the nonprofit New York Videogame Critics Circle (NYVGCC).

“Our goal with Astro Bot was to create a game that could be enjoyed by players of all ages,” said a representative from Team Asobi during their acceptance speech at the 14th New York Game Awards on Jan. 21, 2025. “Winning these awards is incredibly humbling, and we’re thrilled to see how much joy our game has brought to players worldwide.”

The night wasn’t just about the games. Remedy Entertainment’s Sam Lake, a creative force behind Control and Alan Wake received the prestigious Andrew Yoon Legend Award for his nearly three decades of groundbreaking work in the gaming industry.

  • Game of the Year – Astro Bot
  • Best Indie Game – UFO 50
  • Best Mobile Game – Zenless Zone Zero
  • Best AR/VR Game – Batman: Arkham Shadow
  • Best Kids Game – Astro Bot
  • Best Writing in a Game – Metaphor: ReFantazio
  • Best World: Elden Ring – Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Best Music in a Game – Astro Bot
  • Best Acting in a Game – Troy Baker as Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
  • Best Remake – Silent Hill 2
  • Best Hidden Gem – Mouthwashing
  • Best DLC: Elden Ring – Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Best Games Journalism – Simone De Rochefort and Clayton Ashley
  • Andrew Yoon Legend Award – Sam Lake

As of Nov. 3, 2024, Astro Bot has sold over 1.5 million copies, according to Sony’s financial report. Notably, 37% of these purchasers had not bought a first-party PlayStation game in the past two years, indicating the game’s appeal to a broader audience.

Till the  New York Game Awards 2025 ceremony, Astrobot had already won:

  • Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Family Game at The Game Awards 2024;
  • Best Audio Design at Golden Joystick Awards 2024, while Team Asobi also got Studio of the Year;
  • Best PlayStation Game, Best Family Game and Best Platformer at Equinox Latam Game Awards 2024;
  • Game of the Year at Titanium Awards 2024.
