Key points
  1. Sony increases PlayStation 5 prices in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
  2. To counteract the price increase, the company has decreased the prices of PS5 Disc Drives.
  3. While the Middle East and Africa are mentioned, the blog post did not detail the price increase in those territories.

On April 13, 2025, PlayStation’s Vice President of Global Marketing, Isabelle Tomatis, announced that they’re increasing the recommended retail prices of PlayStation 5 consoles in select markets in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

PlayStation cites a challenging economic environment, inflation, and fluctuating exchange rates as reasons why the company is increasing the prices of the console in these territories. To counteract the price increase, PlayStation is going to decrease the prices of PS5 Disc Drives.

The new prices are as follows:

Europe

  • PS5 Digital Edition:
    • Updated Price: €499.99
    • Previous: €449.99
  • PS5 Disc Drive:
    • Updated Price: €79.99
    • Previous: €119.99

United Kingdom

  • PS5 Digital Edition:
    • Updated Price: £429.99
    • Previous: £389.99
  • PS5 Disc Drive:

New Zealand

    • Previous: NZD 899.95
  • PS5 Digital Edition:
    • Updated Price: NZD 859.95
    • Previous: NZD 769.95
  • PS5 Disc Drive:
    • Updated Price: NZD 139.95
    • Previous: NZD 169.95

While the Middle East and Africa have been mentioned in the blog post, the copy itself did not provide a price change and has advised customers who live in this region to check their local retailers and the website.

Recently, U.S. President Trump has excluded smartphones, laptops, and chips from China based on a new tariff exemption that the government has issued. While this does not particularly mention game consoles, it includes the components needed to assemble it.
