  3. Each invitation will be valid for 72 hours.

A new date, May 8, 2025, for notification about invitations to buy a Switch 2 in the US and Canada was announced by Nintendo following the tariff-enforced pre-order delay.

Initially, pre-orders for Nintendo’s next-gen console were set to go live simultaneously across the globe on April 9, 2025. Trump’s tariffs forced Nintendo to resсhedule it in the US first and then Canada and China.

In a FAQ posted to Nintendo’s website, the company states the first batch of invitations will go out starting May 8, 2025, a month later than initially planned.

Pre-order invitations will be available to Nintendo Account holders in the US and Canada who are at least 18 years old, according to Nintendo’s pre-order invitation priority requirements. Eligible individuals will receive an invitation email sent to the email address associated with their Nintendo Account when their time to purchase comes. Each invitation will be valid for 72 hours.

Priority for invitation emails will be given on a first-come, first-served basis to registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with at least 12 months of paid membership and have accumulated a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours as of April 2, 2025. Once invitations have been sent to all registrants meeting the priority criteria, remaining eligible registrants will receive invitations on a first-come, first-served basis.

Invitations are nontransferable and will be sent to the email address linked to the Nintendo Account that registered for the Nintendo Switch 2 purchase. Optional accessories will also be available for purchase alongside the system, with a limit of one purchase per eligible Nintendo Account for the system and each accessory during the invitation period.
