Nintendo has officially confirmed the battery life specifications for Switch 2, which is set to launch on June 5, 2025.
According to Nintendo’s official technical spec sheet, the Switch 2 will feature a 5220 mAh lithium-ion battery. The estimated battery life ranges between 2 to 6.5 hours, with the final duration depending on usage and the types of games played.
Charging the Switch 2 will take approximately three hours when the device is in sleep mode, which is similar to other current Nintendo Switch models. Besides that, charging time for Joy-Con controllers is approximately 3 hours 30 minutes (controllers are charged when attached to the system or Joy-Con 2 charging grip).
The Nintendo Switch 2 supports charging via two USB-C ports. The bottom port can also be used to connect to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock, while the top port can be used for connection of accessories.
It is worth noting that the Nintendo Switch OLED and standard models (with serial numbers starting with “XT” or “XK”) have a battery life of approximately 4.5 to 9 hours, while the original Switch (serial number “XA”) ranges between 2.5 to 6.5 hours. The Nintendo Switch Lite, known for its more compact design, lasts between 3 and 7 hours.
