First reported by Automaton Media, the series creator of Square Enix’s SaGa franchise has mentioned on Twitter that the franchise won’t get any game anytime soon. The latest entry to the franchise is SaGa Emerald Beyond.

Akitoshi Kawazu, the creator of the SaGa franchise, took to Twitter to talk about what happened to the franchise in 2024. He mentioned that they were able to release a new title, a remake, and a remaster. Kawazu was referring to SaGa Emerald Beyond, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven, and SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered. However, the statement also mentioned that there won’t be a SaGa game in for quite some time.

Compared to its big brother Square Enix RPG, Final Fantasy, SaGa emphasizes nonlinear gameplay and open-world exploration a lot more. Players are encouraged to explore and explore the open-ended plot of its games. The very first SaGa was released in 1980 and was called “The Final Fantasy Legend” in North America. It was also the company’s very first Game Boy title.

Its latest title, SaGa Emerald Beyond, received mixed reviews from critics. While its PlayStation 5 scored a “Generally Favorable” score on MetaCritic, most critics found it hard to recommend to people who aren’t already invested in the SaGa franchise.

SaGa Emerald Beyond was released on April 25, 2025. The game is available on Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Steam.
