Nintendo Revealed Specifications for Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 specifications were announced at the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 livestream on April 4, 2025.

Nintendo started with an explanation of the C-button function, which is designed specifically for navigation through GameChat, Nintedo’s analog of Discord that will allow collaborative play, use chat and share screens with other users. Nintendo Switch 2 Camera was announced along with GameChat.

The Nintendo Switch features a 7.9-inch LCD touchscreen display with a 1920 × 1080 resolution that can support up to 120 FPS. The capacitive touch screen supports intuitive controls, while HDR10 compatibility enhances contrast and color depth for supported content. Additionally, the display offers Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support up to 120 Hz.

Switch 2 features 256GB of internal storage (8 times the capacity of the original Nintendo Switch), and faster memory with a portion of the storage being reserved by the system.

Additionally, there are two USB-C ports. The port on the bottom is used to charge the console and connect to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock. The port on the top is used to connect accessories and/or charge the console. Also, Switch 2 has an audio jack of 3.5mm.

The Joy-Con controllers connect magnetically, and the SL and SR buttons have been redesigned, made larger. The controller sticks are also larger for better handling. Both Joy-Cons now function as a mouse with full mouse control support. The device includes a built-in microphone with Nintendo’s noise-canceling technology, similar to NVIDIA Broadcast.

Switch 2 is now compatible with microSD Express cards up to 2 TB.

The device’s battery is 5220mAh and can run approximately 2 – 6.5 hours from one charge, depending on the game playing. Charging time is about 3 hours with console in sleep mode.

On top of that, Nintendo GameCube Controller with C-button was announced for Switch 2.

With the Joy-Con controllers attached, the Nintendo Switch measures approximately 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) tall, 10.7 inches (27.2 cm) wide, and 0.55 inches (1.4 cm) thick. The maximum thickness—measured from the tip of the control sticks to the ZL/ZR buttons—is 1.2 inches (3 cm).

New Nintendo console weighs approximately 0.88 lbs (400 g) without Joy-Con controllers. When both Joy-Con controllers are attached, the total weight is approximately 1.18 lbs (535 g).

It is worth noting that the day before Nintendo Direct, Nintendo announced Nintendo Treehouse streams featuring hands-on gameplay on Nintendo Switch 2 set for April 3-4, 2025.
