Capcom Permanently Bans Monster Hunter Wilds Modders from Multiplayer

- Capcom is implementing perma-bans for modders in Monster Hunter Wilds.
- Other titles had less severe punishments for cheating.
- Caution when using mods for the title is advised.
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds is implementing permanent bans for players using mods, a stricter policy than previous installments in the series. The move has generated concerns within the game’s modding community.
Information regarding the bans surfaced on the Chinese social media platform Bilibili. Reports indicate one player was using a modded downloadable content quest in a multiplayer online session, leading to presumed reports from other participants. The player, located in Vancouver, was permanently banned for “Player Term Violations,” but no exact reasoning has been officially provided.
Another player commented on the situation, supposedly having taken a look at the original post. “This guy got banned because he used mods to unlock all the paid DLC contents and Capcom didn’t get the money. He didn’t mod any items or quests in multiplayer,” they stated. The statement has not been confirmed by Capcom.
The redditor who shared the information online urges players to “please be careful when using mods, and especially not bring it to multiplayer, don’t ever think about using mods that could affect the game play of other players, it would almost be a ban for sure.”
It appears modding is currently only available on PC, but some mods affect directly impact other platforms as well. Since the title supports cross-platform play, console players are also able to reap the unfair rewards of certain cheats, such as the reward inflation mod.
The report of permanent bans comes after multiple instances of players being caught modding the multiplayer quests to drastically increase the quest rewards. It is unclear if it is only this mod that results in a permanent ban. The mod in question completely compromises the gameplay loop for Monster Hunter Wilds, which revolves around material farming.
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds has become its fastest-selling title, with 8.1 million copies sold in January 2025. The game sold 3 million copies within its first three days, exceeding the debut sales of ‘Monster Hunter World.
