Key points
  1. Monster Hunter Wilds players have found a typo in the game’s config files and claim that fixing it has improved their performance.
  2. Other players are advising others not to change it as the game actually uses the variable with the typo.
  3. It’s currently unclear what fixing the typo does to the game.

Monster Hunter Wilds players on Steam have spotted a typo in the game’s config file and are claiming that fixing it improved their performance. However, some players are advising against it claiming that the game actually uses that specific variable.

On March 2, in the Steam Discussions tab of Monster Hunter Wilds, a user by the name of BeepBoop noticed that the config file of the game says “Resoltuion” instead of “Resolution”. According to them, fixing the typo has gained them a performance boost but they did not clarify what kind of boost they have received.

Additionally, another user by the name of Sononeo claims that changing a few lines in the file increased the performance of the game as well. BeepBoop verifies this, but said that changing those lines made their CPU temperatures jump from 50°C to 70°C.

Other players, however, are more cautious about modifying the config files of Monster Hunter Wilds. In that same thread, players are advising others not to change it as they have found out that the game actually uses the variable with the typo. BeepBoop’s final update reflects this as they mentioned fixing it breaks the setting.

Capcom, on the other hand, recently announced that a patch is coming up that solves a game-breaking bug some players are encountering in the game. The bug prevents players from progressing the game past Chapter 5-2 “A World Turned Upside Down”. It’s unclear whether this patch will contain performance improvements.

The playerbase’s desperation for better performance comes from the game’s poor optimization on PC. Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry has highlighted this issue in a video they made. Due to this, the game currently has a “Mixed” review score on Steam.

Monster Hunter Wilds is one of the most played games on Steam currently. As of writing, the game has more than 500,000 players. The game’s 1.3 million players peak was reached a few hours after its release.
