Key points
  1. A game-breaking bug is currently plaguing Monster Hunter Wilds.
  2. The bug doesn’t allow players to progress past a certain point because of a missing NPC.
  3. While the issue is already being investigated, it’s unsure when the bug will be fixed.

A game-breaking bug in Monster Hunter Wilds is preventing players from progressing through the story. According to an official post on Monster Hunter’s Twitter, some players may not encounter a required NPC in Main Mission: Chapter 5-2 — A World Turned Upside Down.

Since this NPC is crucial to a main mission, players who cannot interact with them are effectively locked out of progression. The developers acknowledged the issue in their post stating that they are investigating it, but they have not provided a timeline for a fix. It also remains unclear how many players are affected by the bug.

This game-breaking bug isn’t the only technical issue Monster Hunter Wilds is facing just days after launch. PC players have criticized the game’s performance on lower-end systems and its overall optimization. Eurogamer’s Digital Foundry has even advised against buying the PC version in its current state.

Monster Hunter Wilds is currently one of the most played games on Steam, with over 660,000 active players at the time of writing and a peak of more than 1.3 million at launch. Its 1.3 million peak has earned it the fifth-highest peak player count in Steam history.
