Self-serve IP licensing was released by Roblox on Nov 11, 2025, expanding its IP licensing platform, which was launched in July 2025 with the participation of Sega, Lionsgate, Netflix, and Kodansha.

Originally, the licensing platform, including the Roblox License Manager and Licenses catalog, allowed rights holders of creative works (prominent IPs from Lionsgate, Netflix, Sega, and Kodansha) to partner with creators to reach a larger audience, allowing the latter to build things in the Roblox platform with popular intellectual properties.

By making License Manager self-serve, the corporation now allows any eligible IP holder with registered IP to offer their IP for use on Roblox, with any eligible creator being able to apply to adapt an IP to use in their Roblox creations.

“This democratisation of access promises greater diversity and flexibility for the platform, further solidifying Roblox as the ideal environment for global IP and creative development,” explained Greg Hartrell, Senior Director of Product Management at Roblox.

Since its launch, Roblox’s licensing platform has seen over 1,500 license requests from creators to use available IP. Besides that, platform creators have been actively using IPs from such franchises as Squid Game, Twilight, Saw, and Now You See Me.
