CEO of Microsoft Gaming, Phil Spencer, congratulated Valve on the reveal of its soon-to-be-launched new hardware on behalf of “one of the largest publishers on Steam,” via a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Nov. 12, 2025.

“Gaming moves forward when players and developers have more ways to play and create, especially across open platforms. Expanding access across PC, console, and handheld devices reflects a future built on choice—core values that have guided Xbox’s vision from the start. As one of the largest publishers on Steam, we welcome new options for players to access games everywhere. Congrats on today’s announcement,” wrote Spencer, welcoming the Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame.

Steam Hardware Announcement

The news comes a month after Microsoft’s first Xbox handhelds, ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, launched to lukewarm reviews.

Earlier in 2025, Microsoft raised prices for its ninth-generation consoles, Xbox Series X|S, in the US (as did Sony for the PlayStation 5), and increased prices for Xbox dev kits and the cost of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription plan.

The community on X met Spencer’s message with memes mocking the company’s new “everything is Xbox” business approach.
