The PlayStation 5 was declared the most financially successful console generation to date by co-CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Hideaki Nishino at Tokyo Game Show 2025 on Sept. 25, 2025.
The total revenue from PlayStation 5 sales has reached $136 billion, while PlayStation 4 achieved $107 billion, PlayStation 3 generated $71 billion, PlayStation 2 brought in $44 billion, and the original PlayStation earned $24 billion.

As reported by Gaming.News in early August 2025, Sony hit the 80-million-units-sold milestone in PlayStation 5 sales.
PlayStation 5 is in 11th place on the list of best-selling game consoles, outpaced by PlayStation 3 with 87.4 million units sold, PlayStation 4 with 117.2 million and PlayStation 2, which tops the list with 160.63 million units sold.
