God of War serves as the thrilling sequel to God of War III and continues the epic saga of the franchise’s lore. This installment takes a bold turn by delving into Norse mythology, featuring a more mature and battle-hardened Kratos alongside his son, Atreus. Set in a brutal and unforgiving realm, Kratos faces intense challenges to survive while imparting crucial survival lessons to his son.
Years have gone by since Kratos, the legendary Spartan warrior and former Greek God of War, achieved his revenge against the Greek pantheon. Now, he resides in ancient Norway with his young son Atreus in the captivating realm of Midgard. The adventure kicks off following the death of the towering Jötunn warrior Faye, Kratos’ second wife and Atreus’ mother, who requested that her ashes be scattered at the highest peak among the nine realms. Grieving her loss, Kratos and Atreus prepare a heartfelt funeral pyre before embarking on a hunting expedition, as Kratos believes it’s time for lessons in survival. However, he becomes increasingly frustrated with Atreus’ lack of focus and ability, making him question whether his son is ready for the journey ahead. Suddenly, they’re confronted by a mysterious stranger wielding godlike powers, seemingly impervious to pain. After a fierce battle that appears to leave the stranger defeated, Kratos reluctantly decides to take Atreus along, marking the beginning of their epic quest.
