Key points

  1. Previous PlayStation and PC exclusive titles, including God of War and the Spider-Man series, are expected to be playable on the next-gen Xbox console.
  2. The news was reported by Windows Central’s Jez Corden.
  3. Jez Corden claimed that the next-gen Xbox will run a full Windows operating system, widening the game library to PC games via Steam.

According to a report from Windows Central’s Jez Corden, the next-generation Xbox console will support previous PlayStation-exclusive titles, such as God of War and Insomniac’s Spider-Man series. The claim is based on the fact that the next-generation Xbox console will supposedly run fully on a Windows operating system, thereby widening the game library to PC titles. Windows Central believes the console will support various PC gaming storefronts, including Steam, Epic Games Store and Battle.net.

And since Steam’s library supports ports of God of War and the Spider-Man series, these games will supposedly be supported on the next-generation Xbox console. The same report claims that the new hardware will be developed in partnership with AMD and natively run the entire Xbox Series X|S library while also supporting all existing backward-compatible titles from the original Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

In addition, the report claims that there will be no multiplayer paywall or subscription requirement, aligning with the PC gaming model. These claims have not been officially supported or announced by Microsoft.

Xbox president Matt Booty stated that Xbox’s biggest competitor is no longer other consoles or even PC games. Instead, their biggest competition is “everything from TikTok to movies.” The topic came into light shortly after Halo was announced for PlayStation for the first time, marking the end of the console wars that started decades ago and resulting in US President Donald Trump saluting the end of the console war.
