The Nintendo Switch 2 became the fastest-selling video game hardware device in US history, according to data revealed by Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana.
Nintendo Switch 2 sales began on June 5, 2025, at the initial price of $449.99, despite the turbulence caused by Trump’s tariffs. According to Circana’s estimates, Nintendo Switch 2 sold 1.6 million units in June 2025. This total surpasses the previous record, which was set by the PlayStation 4 in November 2013 with half a million consoles. It was already known that Nintendo outran Sony in this particular challenge, but the exact numbers emerged only on July 23, 2025.
Notably, unlike the price of the base console and the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World, the cost of all accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2 has increased, reflecting an effort to evaluate the potential impact of Trump’s tariffs.
On top of that, according to Circana, total spending in the US on gaming hardware in June 2025 showed year-over-year growth of 249%, reaching $978 million. This set a new record for hardware spending in a June month in the US, surpassing the $608 million recorded in June 2008.
