Edge of Fate Pre-Orders Reportedly Down Significantly From Last Destiny 2 Expansion

|
- Edge of Fate pre-orders are suffering from low sales, according to a Destiny 2 fan.
- The fan has drawn this conclusion based on the data they have collected since Into the Light’s release.
- Edge of Fate will be released on July 15, 2025.
An analysis of the pre-order numbers between the Destiny 2 expansions, Edge of Fate and The Final Shape, has shown that the former is down nearly 50% compared to the latter. This is according to a fan who has compiled data from Warmind.io daily since before the release of the Into the Light expansion in March 2024.
They posted their findings on Reddit and listed how they were able to arrive at such conclusions. According to them, the main way they gathered data is by checking how many players have received the External Sights emblem, which is only available to those who have pre-ordered Edge of Fate. Since they started compiling the data before Into the Light’s release, they were also able to get the numbers for The Final Shape.
What they found out is that Edge of Fate pre-orders are down 47% compared to The Final Shape’s within the same period. Not just that, but if the trend continues, Edge of Fate is expected to sell only 1.12 million copies compared to The Final Shape’s 2.11 million.

The fan clarified that the data they posted should be used as comparative rather than absolute. Until Bungie reveals the numbers on their own, no tool will be able to accurately measure just how many people have pre-ordered the expansions.
Additionally, there have been rumors from leakers saying that Kepler, the location being added in Edge of Fate, will be the first Destiny 2 location to not have Lost Sectors, a Destination Activity and a Strike.
Just as expected for live-service games, Destiny 2 has shown a huge decline in concurrent players on Steam after The Final Shape’s release on June 4, 2024 — from a 316,750 all-time peak down to 21,948 daily concurrent players.
