Path of Exile’s Newly Introduced Mercenaries Deemed Too Strong by Players

- Path of Exile’s mercenaries are one-shotting players and enemy mobs alike.
- Players have also found out that the mercenaries wear very strong equipment.
- Mercenaries were introduced in the latest major expansion of Path of Exile, Secret of the Atlas.
Path of Exile’s newly introduced mercenaries have been dominating players and mobs alike — to the point that players believe they are overpowered. The mercenaries were introduced as part of the game’s newest expansion, Secret of the Atlas.
A short clip by Path of Exile streamer Pohx Kappa shows just how overtuned the mercenaries are. In it, Pohx Kappa is surprised by all the enemies on the screen dying without him doing anything. His mercenary took care of everything, and all he did was walk around.
In addition, players are also finding themselves getting one-shotted by these mercenaries. For context, to be able to recruit a mercenary, players must defeat them first in a duel. Players are also able to see the mercenary’s equipment before entering the duel, which has baffled some of the players due to the sheer power they have.
The developers have not commented on whether they’ll do anything to fix the balance of the mercenaries.
The Secret of the Atlas expansion was introduced on June 13, 2025, almost one year after its last major expansion, which was Settlers of Kalguur. The new expansion introduced a new storyline and a new type of crafting mechanic, among many others.
