- Woshige is going to be added to Street Fighter 6 as part of an event.
- Woshige is going to use Mai and the players can use either Cammy, Akuma, or Luke to fight him.
- Rewards include special character screen illustrations and special emotes.
Woshige is joining Street Fighter 6 as a V-Rival for players to fight in the Battle Hub starting February 5. Beating him will give players rewards, including illustrations from the fighting game legend himself.
This event was announced on Street Fighter’s official Twitter page and comes with a teaser video. The event comes with the Mai Shiranui patch happening on February 5 and it pits the player against Woshige. During the event, players can use either Akuma, Cammy, or Luke to fight Woshige’s Mai. After the player fulfills specific conditions in the event, they will receive special emotes and character screen illustrations that were drawn by Woshige himself.
Woshige is a fighting game legend famous for his “What are you standing up for?” moment where he stood up in the middle of a match against Ogawa, another fighting game player. In the heat of the moment, Woshige forgot that there was still another round and did a premature celebration. The celebration cost him his place in the winner’s side of the bracket. Woshige ended the tournament in 3rd and Ogawa won the whole tournament.
This happened in EVO 2015 during the Guilty Gear bracket and has even entered mainstream media with ESPN reporting on it. The video included in the promotion for the event even re-enacts this moment.
In 2007, Woshige joined Capcom as a game tester. He has climbed up the ranks to become Street Fighter 5’s battle director and one of Street Fighter 6’s battle planners responsible for the game’s balance.
Street Fighter 6 is a fighting game available on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game was released in June 2023 and has a Metacritic score of 92 on PC.
