Key points
  1. A Japanese game company published training material that warns against misnaming code.
  2. The material references an internet meme that slipped into paperwork for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure Transport, and Tourism.
  3. The meme references adult material.

InfiniteLoop published a continuation of their developer training material catered towards eliminating what they codenamed “poop” within software. In this case, poop refers generally to user error and poor naming conventions that result in miscommunication in the long run as a result of human error. These names are never planned to reach the public’s eye, since they are meant to label software behind the scenes.

Though not intended to be seen by the public, this “poop” pollutes the world. The training material states that a huge amount of data passes through the projected 0.001% margin of error, which results in outlandish references.

One of the examples the training material draws from is a reference to sexually explicit material within the paperwork of a government document for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. The reference is not evident to everyone, since it is rather obscure in nature. According to a Netizen, the codes align with the following (google translated from original Japanese):

  • YJ-SNPI → Beast Senpai
  • TDN-114514 → Tadano – Okay! Come on!
  • DB → Daibou (Inmu)

The training material draws from many other examples, including an incident where Yahoo Japan sent out push notifications informing users of attacks from special forces instead of stating that they were performing a notification test. This caused public distress and confusion.

According to the training material, 99% of tragic accidents are a result of a bad joke, prompting the presenter to urge readers to take the issue seriously. The material was initially released in 2021, and amassed over 300,000 views.
