The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Runs Worse The Longer Its Open On Consoles

- Digital Foundry found out that the longer Oblivion Remastered is running on consoles, the worse its performance gets.
- They attributed this bug to a memory leak.
- Oblivion Remastered reached an all-time peak concurrent player count of more than 216,000 on Steam.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been found to get progressively worse the longer the play session is on PlayStation 5, both the pro and normal versions, and Xbox Series X|S. This information came from a video by Digital Foundry showing off the issue.
The game was shown to get worse frame rates after just 15 minutes of play time on both consoles. However, Digital Foundry found out that this issue will solve itself after rebooting the game. This led them to believe that the problem is caused by a memory leak.
Further testing proved this hypothesis, as there have been instances of Digital Foundry being able to perfectly replicate an instance of crashing due to memory leaks. Additionally, the video also highlights that the game doesn’t quite reach a stable 60fps either.
The camera is another issue that Digital Foundry tackled. The video showed that the longer the game goes, the higher the camera position will be. Again, after they rebooted the game, it was magically fixed.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was released on April 22, 2025. The game garnered generally favorable reviews on Metacritic. The game reached an all-time peak concurrent player count of more than 216,000 on Steam. It has also become one of the best-selling games of the year in just a week.
