- Released in 2022, Elden Ring remains a critical and commercial success, with no direct sequel currently planned.
Elden Ring has shipped more than 30 million copies worldwide across all platforms, developer FromSoftware announced today. The milestone was celebrated with a social media post thanking the game’s fanbase: “Dearest Tarnished, we are profoundly thankful for your lasting devotion. May your path be forever guided by the Grace of Gold.”

In December 2024, FromSoftware reported that the game had sold 28.6 million copies, meaning over 1.4 million additional copies were shipped in just a few months. The figure is expected to rise further with the game’s planned release on Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console.
Originally released in February 2022, Elden Ring became an immediate critical and commercial success, praised for its expansive open-world design, challenging combat and deep lore crafted with the collaboration of novelist George R.R. Martin. The game elevated the soulsbourne genre into the mainstream, won numerous Game of the Year awards, and quickly outsold FromSoftware’s entire Dark Souls trilogy combined.
Elden Ring received its first major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, in 2024. The DLC introduced new regions, bosses and storylines, further boosting sales. However, FromSoftware has indicated that no direct sequel to Elden Ring is currently in development. Instead, the studio is focusing on new projects, including Nightreign, a cooperative-focused spin-off set in a different universe, and The Duskbloods—an exclusive title for Nintendo Switch 2.
