Where Winds Meet achieved 251,008 concurrent players on PC via Steam. NetEase celebrated the milestone on Nov. 23; the title is a free-to-play soulslike with no pay-to-win mechanics. As of writing, only cosmetics are purchasable with microtransactions.
The game is marketed to never bring pay-to-win mechanics into the loop, relying on the high prices of the cosmetics to drive revenue. Many cosmetics are, admittedly, locked behind an expensive gacha system. The only in-game items purchasable, as of writing, are healing items and minor battle pass benefits.
The beginning of the game is primarily single-player, but cooperative play is unlockable from level 10 onward. Where Winds Meet was released on Nov. 14 for PlayStation 5 and PC via Epic Games and Steam. Before its release, Where Winds Meet saw over 10 million pre-registrations.
Set in the chaotic Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era following the collapse of the Tang Dynasty, the action role-playing game Where Winds Meet puts players in the role of a young sword master. The game is set in the wuxia genre, the literal translation of which is “martial arts and chivalry.” As of writing, the title has 42,271 “Very Positive” overall Steam reviews.
