Microsoft announced that the full-screen experience (FSE) is now available on Windows 11 handhelds, designed to minimise friction and get players into their games faster. The update is marketed to deliver a console-like experience on handheld devices. The Xbox full-screen experience launches a controller-navigable UI to Windows 11 PC form factors, designed for controller-first navigation. In addition, the Task Switcher function enables quick swapping between games and apps.
To access the new feature, players must join the Xbox Insider Program, then install and launch the Xbox Insider Hub app. After doing so, they must navigate to previews, then go to PC Gaming Preview, where the player can click join. After joining, the player must open the Xbox full-screen experience in the game bar within the Settings menu, then press Win + F111 to toggle the FSE. Pressing the Xbox button on the controller prompts the quick swapping feature.
As of writing, the Xbox FSE is on build 26220.7271 and is available via Dev and Beta channels. The feature requires the Xbox app from the Microsoft Store. The rollout is phased, so not all Insiders gain access to the update immediately. The feature officially launched on Nov. 21, 2025.
