Key points

  1. Destiny 2: The Trials of Osiris is experiencing a significant drop in players.
  2. The game mode lost 39% of players in a single week.
  3. Cheaters are becoming incredibly prevalent in the PvP game mode.

Destiny 2’s pinnacle competitive PvP mode, The Trials of Osiris, is experiencing significant drops in the overall player count, largely attributed to the increasing prevalence of cheaters. According to stats taken from the Destiny Trials Report, from Nov. 11 to Nov. 18, the game mode dropped from 56,667 players to 34,719 players, representing a 39% drop off.

According to one streamer who regularly plays the game mode, they encounter over 10 cheaters daily. The most alarming issue is a new cheat that instantly crashes the entire game lobby, triggering an automatic 30-minute suspension for all players involved.

Trials of Osiris is a 3v3 elimination game mode with a dedicated player base making it their primary objective to win seven consecutive matches in a row and acquire the flawless cards, Lighthouse trips, and other loot every weekend.

Sony recorded impairment losses against a portion of Bungie’s intangible and other assets in connection with its flagship title Destiny 2, amounting to 31.5 billion yen, which is approximately $204 million.

Destiny 2 was originally published by Activision until, on Dec. 31, 2018, Bungie acquired the publishing rights to the franchise. Though the game still sees updates, the community has expressed concern regarding the title’s longevity and the quality of updates.
