Microsoft unlocked access to its game publishing documentation and made its Xbox Game Publishing Guide available for everyone, as was announced by Senior Program Manager, ID@Xbox, Ed Stewart via a post on the Microsoft Game Dev Blog on Nov. 13, 2025.

According to Stewart, after opening access for everyone, the company will continue to update and expand the materials to reflect the latest processes, tools, and practices.

The guidelines detail concrete steps for publishing games on the Xbox platform, along with tips for setting up game pages to collect wishlists and pre-orders, project certification requirements, and more.

Among the recent updates Stewart cites:

  • New information about Xbox Certification and the test services available to developers;
  • Refreshed onboarding guidance dedicated to the ID@Xbox sign-up process and creation of the first game in Microsoft Partner Center;
  • Wish List, pre-order, and release configuration guidance;
  • Updated guidance for participation in the Xbox Insider Program, enabling players to engage with your game before release.
