Guerrilla Games is developing its own multiplayer Horizon game unrelated to the recently revealed MMORPG Horizon Steel Frontiers, co-developed by the studio with NCSoft and connected with the latter only by the setting of the Horizon universe, according to Bloomberg’s game industry insider Jason Schreier.
Dutch first-party video game developer based in Amsterdam and part of PlayStation Studios, Guerrilla Games created the Horizon franchise in 2017 by launching the debut title of the series, Horizon Zero Dawn, along with an expansion, The Frozen Wilds.
In 2023, the initial game in the franchise received a sequel, also developed by Guerrilla Games and titled Horizon Forbidden West, which got the Burning Shores DLC in the same year.
Both titles debuted as PlayStation exclusives, playable on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, but were ported to Windows PC a couple of years after release.
In 2023, the Horizon franchise was also expanded with a spin-off, Horizon Call of the Mountain, co-developed by Guerrilla Games and Firesprite as a launch title for the PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset.
Released in 2024, Lego Horizon Adventures, co-developed by Guerrilla Games with Studio Gobo, retold the story of Horizon Zero Dawn in an upbeat and family-friendly way, significantly downplaying the apocalyptic story of the original while focusing on environmental messages and Aloy’s connections with her family and friends.
The Horizon franchise has sold over 38 million copies worldwide, as was reported by Gaming.News in mid-summer 2025.
