Treyarch to introduce open matchmaking at Call of Duty: Black Ops 7’s launch

In an X post published on Nov. 12, 2025, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 developers mentioned that the game’s multiplayer playlist will have open matchmaking at launch, making it a lot more similar to the Beta experience, where skill is minimally considered.
However, there will be a rotating Moshpit at launch, which will not feature open matchmaking, as the developers deem skill in it will be an important consideration. Of course, the Ranked Play launch in Season 02 will also consider skill to make sure that every match quality will be high.
Treyarch also added that persistent lobbies will be present on day one, helping players keep more players together and more often after consecutive matches. The developers will also make sure to have the playlists labeled properly to see which ones have open matchmaking and which ones don’t.
With that being said, on day one, the playlists featuring open matchmaking will be: Team Deathmatch, Core Moshpit, Skirmish 20v20, Overload and Gunfight. For one that will use skill-based matchmaking, it’ll only be Standard Moshpit.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is slated to be released on Nov. 14, 2025, for the PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will be the main entry in the Black Ops sub-series of the franchise.
