Steam Deck receives display-off downloads

Steam Deck received a display-off low-power download mode on Nov. 4, 2025, announced Valve via post at Steam Deck News Hub and availilable in the Beta and Preview channels.
Due to this new feature, the device’s battery will save power while all active downloads complete before sending the Steam Deck to sleep.
The feature is enabled by default when Steam Deck is charging and can be turned on for work on battery power in Settings, in the Power section.

When in this mode, pressing any button or moving the Steam Deck will bring up a new status screen showing the download progress. From that screen, user can either fully wake the Steam Deck or allow it to continue downloading process with the screen turned off.
When running on battery power with display-off low-power download mode enabled, the Steam Deck will automatically enter full sleep mode if the battery level drops below 20%.
Market research firm International Data Corporation estimated that between 3.7 and 4 million Steam Decks had been sold by the third anniversary of the device in February 2025.
