EA quietly removed the Wicked Grin soldier skin from Battlefield 6 after widespread criticism from the playerbase. The skin had the soldier dressed in bright blue with pointy teeth painted onto the mask, standing in stark contrast to the realistic outfits EA claimed the game would have. In a Reddit post that has amassed over 24,000 upvotes, users came together to protest the skin, and the potential introduction of other “unrealistic” skin lines.
“Weren’t we supposed to have realistic skins for some time? Something that someone would really wear during a war,” one user questioned, expressing discontent regarding the color scheme of the skin. The user continues to criticize EA, stating that people were sold on a vision of a game that looked like a real battlefield and not a “bunch of randos.”
They claim that EA lied in their marketing, and lamented believing that it would only get worse down the road. Clearly, EA listened to the criticism. Though they did not make a public announcement, Battlefield Studios, a subsidiary of EA, definitively removed the Wicked Grind soldier skin, replacing it with a conventional-looking camouflage uniform.
Battlefield 6 has sold over 7 million copies and is EA’s biggest launch in franchise history. The game achieved the most concurrent players in Battlefield history, with the Steam version of the game having surpassed 700,000 concurrent players on the platform. The battle royale iteration of Battlefield 6 launched on Oct. 28, greeted with “Mixed” overall Steam reviews.
