After four years of content, New World: Aeternum will no longer receive updates. The news was shared via blog post on Oct 28, where the devs communicated that the latest season 10 and Nighthaven update will serve as the final content release for the title. To thank the community, the developers are making Nighthaven and Rise of the Angry Earth available for free.
The server shutdown is not scheduled for 2026, but appears to be inevitable, according to the update blog. The exact timeline for the server shutdown is not available, but the devs stated that they will “provide a minimum of six months’ notice before making any changes” before making any changes that impact the players’ capability to play New World: Aeternum.
Players can still make in-game transactions and buy the game on all platforms until further notice. Though no new content is planned, additional bug fixes, server merges, and other miscellaneous changes will still be coming after season 10. World bosses, bonsu weeks, and season events will continue, but no more holiday events will occur.
New World was initially released on Sept. 28, 2021, receiving a definitive edition through New World: Aeternum in 2024. New World saw numerous delays, but eventually launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Amazon Games is the developer and publisher of the game; Amazon saw layoffs earlier this week, reportedly impacting 30,000 jobs, with the gaming division being affected as well.
