Developed and published by Chasing Carrots, the game was initially released on Sept. 24, 2024, for Windows and Linux PCs and later received a mobile port developed by Erabit Studios for both Android and iOS platforms on Oct. 10, 2024, and then a console version by the original creators for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 on Oct. 23, 2025.

Halls of Torment allows players to control a character who descends into the Halls of Torment and must survive combat against waves of enemies in a 30-minute run. The roguelite bullet hell dark fantasy game offers six levels to choose from, each with unique environments that range from open spaces to a long bridge with enemies on either side. At the beginning of each run, players can select from a roster of 12 characters, each with distinct weapons and abilities, initially starting as the Swordsman and unlocking other characters throughout the course of play.

The Boglands expansion for Halls of Torment brings a new stage, two new heroes — The Alchemist and The Crone — six new artifacts and over 50 new quests, along with new abilities and gear.

Meanwhile, the free Bardcore update introduces manual level-ups, over 20 new quests, three metal music tracks with music selection per stage, six new endgame artifacts and a new character, Bard, powered with six new abilities.

As of the time of writing, Halls of Torment has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam with 28,906 reviews and an all-time peak of 26,061 concurrent players, according to SteamDB.
