Key points

  1. Amazon is reportedly planning to cut 30,000 jobs across core departments.
  2. Amazon’s gaming division will reportedly be affected by the layoffs.
  3. Amazon declined to comment on both reports.

On Oct. 28, 2025, both Reuters and Bloomberg reported that Amazon is aiming to cut corporate jobs across its departments, including its gaming division, with Reuters reporting that it might reach up to 30,000 employees being laid off. Bloomberg said that the gaming division is also affected by the layoffs, according to its sources.

Bloomberg said that if Amazon goes through with cutting 30,000 employees, it would be the largest “since rolling reductions in late 2022 and early 2023 that ultimately totaled more than 27,000 corporate employees.” During that time, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy was planning to lay off people in an effort to cut costs “after expanding rapidly during the pandemic.”

Both Bloomberg and Reuters reported that an Amazon spokesperson refused to comment on both of the reports that the outlets have published.

In June, Jassy said that the company’s corporate ranks might be trimmed as the company starts rolling out generative AI to replace them. Bloomberg also reported that in meetings and comments on internal planning documents, Jassy said that Amazon should do more to automate work that could be put in the hands of AI tools.

At the time of writing, it’s unknown how heavily Amazon’s gaming division will be affected once the layoffs have started. Recently, Amazon revealed its newest game, March of the Giants, which just launched in closed alpha.
