Old School RuneScape to launch Sailing skill, enabling ocean travel

On Oct. 24, 2025, Jagex announced that Old School RuneScape will be adding a new skill to the game called Sailing. This addition also makes the seas and oceans in the world of Gielinor traversable, essentially expanding the game’s exploration aspects.
Since this is going to be the first skill to be added into the game for a long time, the developers mentioned that the “race to reach level 99 is back,” and that those who do will receive the new Sailing Skill Cape that was designed by a community member called Gentle Tractor.
Additionally, new items will also be added to the game, such as the spyglass, which will help players “find new locations and small islands.” Exploration plays a big part with the addition of this skill as new ores, trees and resources are going to be up for grabs for those who sail.
However, sailors are also not safe as they traverse the waters of Old School RuneScape, as creatures like sharks, orcas and even frostdragons can be encountered while traversing the seas. Mermaids can also be seen in the skill’s trailer that was published by Jagex themselves.
The Sailing skill will be added to Old School RuneScape on Nov. 19, 2025. Players simply have to go to The Pandemonium to start learning about Sailing, then start the journey of becoming a sailor.
