Netflix shuts down studio behind its mobile hit Squid Game: Unleashed

Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the mobile game Squid Game: Unleashed, was shut down by Netflix three years after its acquisition, according to recent LinkedIn posts from the studio’s co-founder and former CEO, David Rippy, and the studio’s director of game development, David Luehmann.
The news comes a couple of months after Gregory Peters, co-CEO, president and director of Netflix, called Squid Game: Unleashed a major success among in-house developed titles during a quarterly earnings call on July 17, 2025.
On top of that, as of June 2025, Squid Game: Unleashed was one of the most downloaded games on Netflix, with 20.7 million downloads, second only to Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which almost reached 50 million downloads.
As of July 1, 2025, Squid Game: Unleashed topped the Free Action Games category on the App Store charts in 107 countries, according to a press release from Netflix dedicated to the launch of the final season of the “Squid Game” series.
Netflix acquired Boss Fight in March 2022, with Amir Rahimi, VP of game studios at Netflix, declaring, “This studio’s extensive experience building hit games across genres will help accelerate our ability to provide Netflix members with great games wherever they want to play them.”
