EA officially announced that Battlefield 6 REDSEC, the title’s standalone free-to-play battle royale game mode, is scheduled to release on Oct. 28 at 8 am PT. The announcement was made on Oct. 27, a day before the official release. A launch gameplay trailer is also scheduled to debut at the same time as the game mode.

The launch date coincides with the start of Battlefield 6 Rogue Ops season 1, which debuts new weapons, maps, and more.

Unlike other battle royales, Battlefield 6 REDSEC features a ring that instantly kills enemies upon contact, meaning there is no jumping in or out of it. The game mode features 100 players divided into 25 four-player squads, with each player locking in a class at the beginning of the match. Players cannot change their class after this point. The player begins with two default gadgets from their chosen class. Leveling up through XP by defeating opponents or completing missions unlocks new traits that provide tactical advantages.

All the core principles of Battlefield are marketed to take place within the mode, including gadgets, explosives, destructible environments, and vehicles. The map has been built exclusively for the Battle Royale game mode, featuring numerous tactical Points of Interest with distinct layouts and themes to diversify gameplay.

Common transport vehicles are sprinkled across the map; more powerful armored vehicles can be unlocked as well. Destruction is said to be everywhere in the game mode.

There are 5 tiers of weapons to loot. The loot pool includes throwables, gadgets, Strike Packages, armor, upgrade kits, and custom drops of favorited weapons. The loot is gathered through general loot crates, class-specific crates, unlocking armored trucks, mission rewards, and looting defeated enemies.

Battlefield 6 has sold over 7 million copies and is EA’s biggest launch in franchise history, according to a press release published on Oct. 16. Over 172 million matches were played online, and over 15 million hours were watched on streaming services.

The game achieved the most concurrent players in Battlefield history, with the Steam version of the game having surpassed 700,000 concurrent players on the platform. The total number of players across platforms is projected to be much higher, but other console concurrent player figures are not available yet.
