Key points
- Pokémon Legends: Z-A has sold around 5.8 million copies within the first week of its release globally.
- In Japan, the game has sold 1.4 million copies.
- Pokémon Legends: Arceus still performed better than Pokémon Legends: Z-A globally.
On Oct. 24, 2025, Nintendo published a press release in Japanese containing information about the sales of Pokémon Legends: Z-A. After translating it via Google Translate, it revealed that the game has sold 5.8 million copies worldwide.
This report popped up a day after Famitsu published its weekly gaming sales figures, but these figures only apply to Japan. Pokémon Legends: Z-A did not just take the top spot; it also took second place, as the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions were counted separately.
In Japan, the Switch version sold 872,552 copies, and the Switch 2 version sold 612,905 copies. Putting them together would mean that the game has sold around 1,485,457 copies in Japan alone. This is slightly higher than Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ launch week in Japan, which sold 1,424,657 copies.
While Pokémon Legends: Z-A performed well in Japan compared to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it’s a different story in the global market. On Feb. 4, 2022, Nintendo announced that Pokémon Legends: Arceus had sold 6.5 million copies within its first week, beating the recent addition to the Legends line of Pokémon by around 700,000 copies.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A was released on Oct. 16, 2025 for the Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2.
