Key points
- Roblox is now officially banned in Iraq due to concerns regarding child safety.
- The ban was apparently based on studies and field monitoring by the country.
- Recently, Roblox was issued criminal subpoenas by the attorney general of Florida.
On Oct. 20, 2025, Reuters reported that Iraq announced that it is banning the gaming platform Roblox in its territories, citing concerns over child abuse allegedly happening on the platform. Iraq is the latest addition to countries such as Turkey and China that have banned the game for the same reasons.
Iraq added that the ban was due to the game allowing direct communication between users, which exposed children and adolescents to exploitation or cyber-extortion. The government also said that the game’s content was “incompatible with social values and traditions.”
The ban was apparently based on studies and field monitoring, which revealed that “the game involves several security, social, and behavioral risks.”
Roblox is currently facing a lot of legal problems and criticism regarding the safety of children and young people using its platform. Recently, the attorney general of Florida has sent criminal subpoenas to the company, citing that the platform has become a breeding ground for predators.
Even before that, Roblox was already under fire by the attorney general of Louisiana for failing to protect the children who use the platform. Roblox has not commented regarding the Iraq ban, but the company has had a track record of cooperating with law enforcement in their investigations.
