Key points

  1. Disco Elysium fans slammed for ZA/UM after the company published a post online celebrating the game’s sixth anniversary.
  2. Back in 2022, the company had ousted the co-creators of Disco Elysium from the company.
  3. Disco Elysium was initially released in 2019.

An X post by ZA/UM, the company that owns the rights to Disco Elysium, was flooded by profanity and angry commenters as it tried to celebrate the game’s sixth anniversary. The post was made on Disco Elysium’s official X account and said, “thank you to all who made it possible.”

The comments ranged from reminding the company that they have fired Disco Elysium’s original developers to comments that simply curse them out, saying that they have ruined the game for them.

These comments stemmed from an event that happened in October 2022, where the co-creators of Disco Elysium: Robert Kurvits, Aleksander Rostov and Helen Hindpere were forced out of the studio a year before reports of it even came out.

To add fuel to the fire, Robert Kurvitz and Aleksander Rostov made a blog post in the same month saying that they learned they were ousted from the company through fraudulent means. The blog post mentioned that the money used to buy the majority stake in ZA/UM was taken illegally from the studio itself, which is a criminal wrongdoing punishable by up to three years imprisonment.

They also mentioned that one of the people they believed to have been a perpetrator was already convicted for defrauding investors before. The co-founders ended their statement saying, “the company we built has been looted, while our own earnings are insufficient even to cover legal fees.”

Disco Elysium was initially released in 2019. It’s an award-winning indie game, which won four awards at The Game Awards 2019.
