After 20 years at Ubisoft, Marc-Alexis Côté departed the company. He previously co-directed Assassin’s Creed III, served as the creative director for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, and producer for every subsequent release since then. The news of his departure comes after a new business entity was formed by Ubisoft after its 25% stake in Tencent.

Numerous IPs, including Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six, are now a part of a subsidiary known as Vantage Studios. This studio is a byproduct of the Tencent acquisition, marketed to improve some of Ubisoft’s biggest IPs. Marc-Alexis Côté, according to a report from IGN, was offered a role as a part of Vatnage Studios’ leadership but declined the offer.

An Ubisoft spokesperson told IGN that Marc-Alexis Côté has chosen to pursue a new path elsewhere outside of Ubisoft. Ubisoft had previously reportedly canceled an Assassin’s Creed title set in the post-Civil War period.

Tencent is one of the world’s biggest video game companies, valued at around $600 billion. The company owns Riot Games, the creators of League of Legends. It also owns popular IPs Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile, and Goddess of Victory: Nikke.
