On Oct. 6, 2025, at around 8 pm EDT, both Steam and Riot Games experienced service outages and disruptions; the outages are speculated to be a result of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. The titles in question were all multiplayer games, affecting major titles such as Counter-Strike, League of Legends, DOTA 2, Valorant, and more.
For Riot Games’ titles, gamers on all major platforms, PC, Mac, and mobile, were affected. This resulted in League of Legends Ranked becoming disabled. As of writing, ranked is avaiable once again for League of Legends alongside other Riot Games titles. Other platforms, such as PlayStation Network, Epic Games, Hulu, and many more, are reportedly affected by the alleged attacks as well.
Users believe that the affected platforms are dealing with sophisticated TCP carpet bomb attacks. The attacks “aim to replicate legitimate traffic as closely as possible. This is one of the more advanced attack vectors.” Cybercrime news reporter vxdb claims the bandwidth reached 29.69 terabits per second.
