Key points

  1. Kurtjmac’s Farland or Bust journey in Minecraft has finally ended on Oct. 5, 2025.
  2. Notch believed that what Kurtjmac was doing was impossible, which only motivated Kurtjmac.
  3. Throughout his journey, he has raised money for different charities.

On Oct. 5, 2025, Twitch streamer Kurtjmac reached the Farlands in Minecraft, concluding a 14-and-a-half journey that started in March 2011. Upon reaching the end, Kurtjmac planted a sign that says “Here Farlenders first set foot upon Far Lands! October 4, 2025.”

For context, Farlands is a place in Minecraft where the game’s terrain generation does not function correctly due to an integer overflow. This results in a warped, or just black, landscape and a lagging game.

In an interview with TechTimes in 2015, Kurtjmac revealed that Notch said what he was doing would be impossible, so he took it as a challenge, which has recently paid off as he proved the very creator of Minecraft wrong.

It’s worth noting that what kurtjmac did is only possible in version Beta 1.7.3 of the game, as developers have found a fix regarding the game’s integer overflow, essentially erasing the Farlands.

Throughout his journey, kurtjmac has raised money for different charities such as: Child’s Play, Direct Relief, the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, the Equal Justice Initiative and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
