Payday 3’s offline mode has been officially cancelled, as confirmed by one of the developers during a 2nd-anniversary Twitch stream. According to the stream, the offline mode is no longer feasible for the direction the studio is heading with the game; an offline mode was one of the highest demanded features from the community.
As for Payday 2, the predecessor has an offline mod where the player can perform solo runs with AI companions without needing an internet connection. Despite the series already having had the requested functionality, development studio Starbreeze will not be implementing offline mode into Payday 3.
Payday 2 has far more concurrent players than Payday 3, according to SteamDB’s concurrent player count readings. Payday 2’s 24-hour peak on Steam was 34,568, while Payday 3’s 24-hour peak was 1,815, less than 10% of its predecessor’s. Payday 3 is currently on sale on Steam for $9.89 until Oct. 6, and is sitting at “Mixed” Overall Steam reviews. Payday 2, a title that was initially released in 2013, has “Very Positive” overall Steam reviews, and is currently priced $2.99.
