On Oct. 2, 2025, Hilary Hidey announced that she had taken the role of global franchise director for Destiny at Bungie. In an X post, she mentioned that she’s “loved this franchise for what seems like forever, and I’m so excited to work on its future.”
Hidey has been in the video games industry for quite some time now. Her first contact with a game studio was with BioWare back in 2011, according to her LinkedIn profile. She served as BioWare’s senior manager of global product marketing from June 2015 to March 2016, then hopped over to Bethesda Softworks, doing the same thing.
Before taking her current post at Bungie, she was the lead producer of the “Next Mass Effect” game at BioWare, which was rumored for a long time. Regarding her duties at Bungie, she’s still keeping it under wraps, but when asked if she’s reached max light in Destiny 1, she said yes.
Destiny 2, and Bungie as a whole, is not in a good spot currently. Complaints regarding Iron Banner, the newest expansion not being available in certain territories, and the recent plagiarism regarding Marathon have plagued the studio, effectively erasing all the goodwill of the studio in the eyes of its fans.
