Epic Games reinstated the Peaceful Hips Emote with an altered choreography as a part of next week’s Fortnite update. The company had previously removed the emote after community speculations claimed that the dance, originally performed by Peacemaker, represented the Nazi regime’s swastika.
After being contacted by Epic, Warner Bros. confirmed that there was no creative intention to connect the Peaceful Hips Emote and the overarching Peacemaker storyline to Nazi symbolism, despite popular fan theories.
According to a news report from Forbes, the overarching story has been leading up to presenting a reality where the Nazis had won, “resulting in an all-white population and a swastika on the American flag.” This narrative factor plays a significant role in the community’s speculations for the swastika reference within the original Peaceful Hips Emote’s choreography.
To avoid controversy, Epic added an altered choreography of the Peaceful Hips Emote. The changed choreography has not been revealed as of writing. The emote is scheduled to be reinstated as a part of next week’s update; players may return the Emote without using a ticket.
