The “Peaceful Hips” dance emote in Fortnite, performed by John Cena’s Peacemaker character, was banned by Epic Games on Sept. 28, 2025.
“We’re disabling the Peaceful Hips emote in Fortnite as we inquire into our partner’s creative intentions in this collab emote. Assuming it’s not coming back, we’ll issue refunds in the next few days. Sorry, folks,” declared the company’s official statement on X (formerly Twitter).
Peacemaker, the series starring John Cena as the main character, went viral at the time of the first season’s launch in 2022 due to the silly dance intros intentionally performed by the cast with a poker face.
As of the time of writing, the first season’s Intro Title Sequence on the official YouTube DC channel had gathered 5.9 million views, while on the YouTube channel of HBO Max it had reached 20 million views.
The cancelled emote, which repeats movements from the first few seconds of the second season’s intro, sparked an online theory that this specific dance move may be a subtle nod to a swastika.
Meanwhile, the second season’s intro hasn’t gained as much popularity as the dance from the debut season of the series. As of the time of writing, the official YouTube DC channel had gathered 2.4 million views, while on the YouTube channel of HBO Max it had reached 649,000 views.
Notably, three weeks ago, Epic Games announced a partnership for Fortnite’s first-ever official anthem, Locked & Loaded, with d4vd (David Anthony Burke), which apparently wasn’t provocative enough to cancel, even in light of the fact that Burke became the subject of controversy following the discovery of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s decomposed remains in an impounded Tesla registered in his name.
Fortnite was released in early access mode by Epic Games on July 25, 2017, and is now playable on macOS and Windows PCs, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Android smartphones, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
The game has received 21 awards in different categories across multiple industry award ceremonies.
