Key points
- EA confirmed that console-only crossplay will not be present in Battlefield 6.
- EA said it would prioritize console players in crossplay, but they will still have the possibility to be matched with PC players.
- Battlefield 6 will be released on Oct. 10, 2025.
In an interview with Dexerto, EA confirmed that Battlefield 6 players won’t be able to play with console-only crossplay and that console players will still be matched with PC players if they turn on the crossplay option.
However, the news contradicts statements EA made to IGN in an interview. Matthew Nickerson, senior console combat designer of Battlefield 6, said, “Console-only crossplay happens if you turn it off. When you flip that switch, then you get, basically, console-only crossplay, and that is, we don’t fill with PC players.”
One of the problems with PC players being able to join the lobbies of console players is their ability to cheat, which is substantially easier using the PC. This, in turn, can result in console players not enjoying the game, which also presents another problem.
Turning off crossplay in Battlefield 6 would mean that players will only be able to play against others using the same console, which would limit the number of players they can play with.
While EA added that players on consoles with crossplay on would mean that the system would prioritize matching them with other console players, it still isn’t the kind of crossplay that Nickerson described during the IGN interview.
Battlefield 6 is a first-person shooter developed by Battlefield Studios and published by EA. The game is set to be released on Oct. 10, 2025, for the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
